Proton exchange membrane - A proton exchange membrane (PEM) is a semipermeable membrane generally made from ionomers and designed to conduct protons while being impermeable to gasses such as oxygen or hydrogen. This is their essential function when incorporated into a proton exchange membrane fuel cell: separation of reactants and transport of protons.
Biological membrane - A biological membrane or biomembrane is an enclosing or separating tissue which acts as a barrier within or around a cell. It is, almost invariably, a lipid bilayer (except for Archaea which have isoprene membranes), composed of a double layer of lipid-class molecules, specifically phospholipids, with occasional proteins intertwined, some of which function as channels.
Homeoviscous adaptation - The maintenance of proper membrane fluidity is of critical importance for the function and integrity of the cell, essential for the mobility and function of embedded proteins and lipids, diffusion of proteins and other molecules laterally across the membrane for signaling reactions, and proper separation of membranes during cell division. A fundamental biophysical determinant ...
Cell membrane - A cell membrane, plasma membrane or plasmalemma is a selectively permeable bilayer which comprises the outer layer of a cell. It is comprised of, among other components, phospholipid and protein molecules which separate the cell interior from its surroundings within animal cells, and control ...

Gene complex - A gene complex is a set of genes that perform similar roles in a biological function. A gene complex is often composed of several members of a gene family and are located in one region of a chromosome where they share regulatory elements such as enhancers. What Genes Can't Do The idea of the gene has been ... of the book, Moss uses the Gene-D/Gene-P distinction to examine the real basis of biological order gene x and of the pathological loss of order in cancer. He provides a detailed analysis of the "order-from-order" role of cell membranes gene x and compartmentalization gene x and considers dynamic approaches to biological order such as that of Stuart Kauffman. Bacterial Plasmid - ... this important volume is intended to show how these proteins work while providing an up-to-date review of the field. Bacterial Protein Toxins describes all aspects of the biology of toxins, including their synthesis bacterial plasmid and secretion from the bacterial cell, their travels to bacterial plasmid and into the target host cell, bacterial plasmid and their modes of attacking the host cell machinery. It illustrates how bacterial toxins, each of which has distinct individual properties, often share mechanisms of secretion, membrane transport, bacterial plasmid and enzymatic action.
