Sigmoid function - A sigmoid function is a mathematical function that produces a sigmoid curve — a curve having an "S" shape. Often, sigmoid function refers to the special case of the logistic function shown at right and defined by the formula:
Function of a real variable - In mathematics, a function of a real variable is a mathematical function whose domain is the real line. More loosely, a function of a real variable is sometimes taken to mean any function whose domain is a subset of the real line.
